The very first question brand new writers ask is, “How do I get my book published?”

Knowing why you are writing your book, is the first step.

If you are writing your book because you want to scratch it off your bucket list then you can self publish it free at companies like www.lulu.com or www.blurb.com . (Well, it’s not free it will cost you giving them your personal information and opening up an account) You can download your material into a simple template, transfer images, design your cover and bobs your uncle. You can order your book, hold it in your hot little hands, and decide how you would like to improve it and then jump back online and make revisions at any time. You can sell it to your friends and family and you’re done. You can still post this on your website and your friends can order it online and have it delivered to their door. This route does not get into bookstores, because it has no barcode.

If you are wanting this book on the book shelves immediately and have no real need or care to have it be a number one bestseller,and are on a tight budget, you can do everything stated above, choose your online self publishing company and then purchase a barcode and register for a isbn number and then it is ready to hit the shelves. People can order it online or to be delivered to their home or bookstore by using the isbn/barcode information. You can self promote your book this way by sending out a press release with any number of good online press release companies including free ones. You can also market yourself by finding events in your niche that you can apply to be a speaker at, your local papers, radio and television media is always happy to spotlight new local authors.

You can pay a publishing company to publish your book for you, that usually includes a good level of marketing input and a strategy to get you into the best seller’s position, so that the company can make more money from your book. This can range between $900 and $6,000.

Two Key Reason's To Publish a Book.

There's no denying that the media control's the masses. What the media says, goes. Eg: If you've got exceptional musical talent, you will be found! It's hardly necessary to attempt the grouling hoop jumping to get noticed. If you are as good as you think you are, stick it on You Tube, share it with your friends on FB and trust me, you will be found. The producing company that finds you first wins. Then, they will shape you into a star that is appealing to the masses so that they can profit from you.

The same goes with writing. It's not so much about the writing, it's what's being written. You could be a horrible writer but have a powerful message that will be found by the masses searching for your answer to their problem. If what you have to say IS as powerful as you think it is, then build a website, start a fan page on facebook, and invite your friends to give you their oppinion. IF it is what people want, you will be found, and if by the masses, a production company will find you , and want to profit from you.

I have two strong reasons why people should write a book.

1. It gives you automatic 'expert' status, which will open up new doors for you in your career.

2. There is a personal and deep level of character building that comes with persuing, following through and completing your bublished book, which will also open up new doors for you in all areas of your life.

If you have ever thought about writing a book and never got around to it, I recommend you sit down and make a list on how following through on this would impact you, your family, your career and the readers!

Books are a Billion Dollar Industry. Get in on it!! Why? Because you can.

My first public speaking engagement.

OK, so I'm a writer, but even moreso, I'm a talker. AND I'm a shitty speller. In fact grammar in general is pretty bad. I look at writing as just me talking, sharing and delvinering what I know. It's the job of my editor to fix up the gramatical details that I don't have the patience for. My editor will not be editing these blogs. It's me, Andrea MacLeod, in the raw. Errors and all, here to hopefully inspire you in your writng dreams. After writing my first book "sister we need to talk. sound relationshiip advice that works," I was keen to find out if it were true that becoming an author instantly gave me the label "expert". One month after my book was published as a dry run/editing still required, I was a guest on Toronto's popular Breakfast Television as their 'guest expert' of course. And two radio interviews on Cheryl Weekmarks Morning Show, as their guest.....yup...expert. It was easy being an expert even though it didn't reallly seem like i was one...heck i'm a housewife, crazy enough to homeschool her three kids who capitalizes on her A.D.D label.....oh how i liked removing my A.D.D label for this new one. All I had to do was talk about what i wrote. Easy peazy!

My next was to see if i could talk more about it in front of groups, as a guest (expert) speaker, and so I found a great event, sent them an email told them I was the author of bla bla blah, and I was in. Now....i need to learn how to public speak and put on a 90 minute presentation. OK. sounds like fun.

I'll keep you posted on how it's going. I've got to go and get my hubby a bowl of ice cream and then massage his feet. Why?Because that's what a damn good wife does.
